Fifty years is a long time for any group to survive. The Southern Gentlemen MC, of Gaston County, NC, recently celebrated that goal and is stronger than ever. Despite off and on rain, lots of folks showed up at the very cool clubhouse for the 50th Anniversary Party.

Several founding members were there. Some long-time members brought old photos of rides from the 1970’s. Oh Man the stories of biker adventures and BS from years ago were flowing around the tables. Lots of great food and drink started the party off. Soon the band was crankin’ it up in the outside bar.

I met some Southern Gentlemen the first summer I was back to North Carolina camping in the mountains on the creek. They were always ready to tell stories of military service and riding motorcycles. And had a friendly hug and cold beer.

For 50 years they have been some good guys to hang out with at the Harley drags or twice a year at the Creekside Bike Rally which the Southern Gentlemen host and open to the public. I wish them fifty more years of riding and brotherhood.

As the brothers say, “We’ve always played by our own rules and we are still doing it today.”
